No-one ever looks at this bit of the page, so I've put lots of uselessful stuff here.
SL-5500 LED control
This gadget changes the state of the mail LED (green) on the 'cluster of
Collies', which are three Sharp SL-5500 PDAs that sit to the left of the
monitor, and one (redwing) that is in the tiny, dark room where I sleep
(don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm a bit weird). If you want to wake me
up, setting redwing's LED to 'fast flash' is a good way to do it.
'Desree' is the webserver itself; setting the LED status of this host causes
a tone to be played on the speaker in the kitchen, where I usually am.
If you wish me to notice the LEDs, the best host is currently Redwing.
Messages from the system operator (me):
10-Dec-11 (05:34):
Collie is currently out-of-action, due to a catastrophic filesystem error.
In English, this means that a) its SD card is buggered and b) when I tried to
boot it from internal flash, I found that it was buggered as well. I have
installed the standard Sharp ROM and it is working, but I will need to install
a few things before it can be used as a remote-control beeping/flashing device.
26-Nov-11 (13:17):
I have added three commands to make various noises. Please note that unbridled
use of these commands will probably annoy me - especially for the 'alarm' and
'warning' sounds (which are the same, thanks to the limited definitions of the
SL-5500 buzzer device). Naturally, I have the ability to disable and enable
these at will, and this might not be observable when you run the command. So,
you never know... do you? No. The first person/entity to make a noise gets a
special mention in this file!
20-Nov-11 (07:06):
Attraction and Collie's LED scripts should work now. The cause: a couple of
SD cards failed on both units, a few months ago. I replaced them, put a
partial solution in place - but I had forgotten about the LED stuff. I had
noticed that someone (hello, Bergdorf Network user - whoever you are!) was
repeatedly lighting Redwing's LED, and I thought that I'd have a look at the
scripts to see if there was a reason why none of the
other SL-5500s ever had lit LEDs. The reason: the scripts were broken. They
should work now; if they don't, send me a message and tell me. To send me a
message.. er.. email me. I rarely use IRC now -
the page is still up, but I forget to start the client.
08-Sep-11 (15:03):
Due to SD card issues and general instability, all of the SL-5500s are
currently offline. I have a lot of things to sort out with them, and they also
need a good clean (it's so dusty in here!).
10-Aug-11 (03:19):
Attraction had an SD card failure, and was offline for a while. It should be
working okay now.
24-Apr-11 (01:20): I've replaced
Redwing's wireless adaptor
with an old Symbol Spectrum24 LA-4137 'Wireless Networker' (what a bloody
long name for such a tiny card!). The wireless connection seems to be more
stable now, so I've put the button back. I've also updated the button script
to refresh after 5 seconds (returning you to the index page) and have fixed
an SSH error that prevented Attraction and Collie's LEDs from being set.
28-Mar-11 (15:19): Redwing
currently has a wireless adaptor problem that makes it rather unreliable; you
may encounter errors when switching its LED mode. This host was removed (from
the radio buttons) on 16-Apr-11.
'Hello' List
10-Aug-11 (02:23): Hello to someone on a Charter Communications network; you may be interested to know that you are the first person to have
set a flashing LED (on Collie).
09-Jul-11 (17:07): Greetings, person from British Virgin Islands; thank you for setting Redwing's LED.
10-May-11 (14:53): Hello, comcast.net user.
27-Apr-11 (15:57): Hello to the Romanian guest who set
Collie's LED.
08-Mar-11 (01:26): To a Belizean visitor who set the
combination 'ON, OFF, OFF' this morning: that combination is not valid. Thank
you for being the first Internet person to set the LEDs, though! (And the
second!)
